Lockhart is also known for its rich history. The town was founded in 1837 and named after George C Lockhart. He received the parcel of land for surveying the land for the Mexican Government. If you’re interested in learning more about the area’s history, be sure to visit the Caldwell County Historical Museum.

#4: We’re an old cowboy town.

Known by some for being an old cowboy town, the historical residents of Lockhart had nerves of steel. In addition to being a component of the Independence and Chisholm trails, Lockhart and the surrounding counties were also the targets of Comanche attacks and livestock drives. Needless to say, the early settlers of Lockhart were rough and tough.

#5: We’re known for our Chisholm Trail history.

We celebrate our history. Lockhart’s rich history as a part of the Chisolm Trail is honored with a rodeo and music festival every other weekend in June known as the Chisholm Trail Roundup. This fun annual event has a little something for everyone to enjoy.

#6: We’ve got a unique library you’ve got to see.

Built in 1899, the historic Eugene Clark Library holds the title of “oldest library still in continuous operation” in Texas. Both the library’s architecture outside and inside are stunning.
